However, I hope to launch the site sometime in January.
The website will be at: www.pillbox.org.uk/; a holding page with basic details is already there.
At the heart of pillbox.org.uk is Concrete Evidence, a searchable database of all of the pillboxes and defence works I've included in my blog throughout 2006, plus many others.
I currently have 100 defence works listed, illustrated with over 200 photographs, with many more to add.
The screen-grab at right shows the Concrete Evidence page for one of the type 25 pillboxes at Cuckmere Haven.
The database also shows any parent defences, (the light red box) and listed defences within the same grid square (the blue boxes).
The site was actually ready to go live as early as last April, having had a development time of just two weeks from my having the first impulse to registering a domain and designing Concrete Evidence.
However, I wanted to have more material prepared and more records in Concrete Evidence before I went live.
I'm going to do what I can over the next few evenings to tidy up a few records and add notes to those that are currently empty; there's also about another 100 photographs to be databased.
There's supporting material to be written as well, such as an overview of the invasion threat and an explanation of a defence scheme; I may delay these in an effort to launch the site though.
Anyway, now I've announced a January launch, I can't go back on it; by the end of the month, pillbox.org.uk will go live whatever state it's in!
A military plan of defence for a specified area. Defence Schemes were issued at numerous levels. Defence Schemes were later known as Plans to Defeat Invasion on the orders of General Montgomery.
